Advanced Higher Graphic Communication
For my Advanced Higher Graphic Communication project I designed a complete VHS tape product line for a fictional brand I called 'Prism™'. The project is split into two main areas: a full set of technical graphics documenting every component of the cassette, and CVMG where I created various promotional material to market the tape to a modern audience.
I was tasked with choosing an object and creating pencil sketches and brief analysis. Then replicating it in CAD, designing renders and completing finite element analysis. Next I would have to create print based publishing and also a digital media. I chose a promotional advert/film.
I found the sketching and CAD quite tedious but when I got to the CVMG I had so much fun creating the brand and product range. Especially the animated advert.
I produced nine sheets of fully dimensioned production drawings in Autodesk Inventor, covering all 15 individual components of the video cassette. I included orthographic views, sectional and detail views, an auxiliary projection, and an exploded isometric assembly with a complete parts list. I also ran a finite element analysis stress simulation on the outer casing, testing how it would hold up to an impact load of 490N. It was to emulate if someone dropped something directly on top of the tape.
I developed the Prism™ brand identity and used it across the three print medias. An A3 poster, an 85×55mm business card, and a 400×280mm shop door vinyl. All of which were created/designed in Affinity. I then produced a cinematic product advert in Blender and DaVinci Resolve. I textured, lit, animated and rendered all the shots in Blender before taking them into DaVinci Resolve for editing. I the advert with 'Fly Me to the Moon' by Astrophysics which is a song I love and am glad I got to use for a project.
This is the promotional advert I made for the "new" Prism™ XR-100. I rendered all the shots in Blender at 1920×817 (2.35:1) and edited them together in DaVinci Resolve.
